About Us About Our Community Get Involved

What is the Anchor Bay Community Foundation? The Anchor Bay Community Foundation is a tax-exempt 501(c)3 organization established to raise funds for the long-term benefit of the Anchor Bay community and the greater New Baltimore and Chesterfield areas. While we raise funds, our primary mission is to be a grant maker.

A Little History...
The ABC Foundation was organized in 1995 with an idea from Anchor Bay Schools Superintendent Dr. Juliana Texley, School Board President Roger Facione, and School Board Trustee Bob Miller. They wanted a community foundation with a philosophy based on the 40-year history of the Anchor Bay Student Service Club and the Anchor Bay Mothers Club. Those groups were interested in implementing or complimenting cultural, educational and social programs in the area.

Frank C. Ruzzin, a former Anchor Bay School Board Trustee, approached friends and business people with a similar interest. Those folks became Founders with twenty-five individual contributions of $1,000, which was used to establish a $25,000 endowment.

Those Founders are...
Joseph P. Abell Family Stuart & Velma MacDonald

Over the years, public awareness has generated more interest in the programs our neighborhoods have enjoyed as a result of foundation-assisted community grants. With that awareness, the list of contributors has grown.

The ABC Foundation, one of only sixty-four non-profit community foundations in the State of Michigan, now has an endowment in excess of $300,000. To date, more than $100,000 in grants has been awarded to programs that benefit area residents. Today eight scholarships are in place for liberal arts, performing arts, fine arts, science/engineering, criminal justice, medicine, and business.

The Anchor Bay Community Foundation Board of Directors includes members of the community from diverse backgrounds—civic and community leaders, activists, parents, educators and business people. All are volunteers who have also served their community through their schools, committees, churches, and now serve on the ABC Foundation Board to create a dialogue on issues affecting the Anchor Bay area.
