Annual Celebration Dinner

The Anchor Bay Community Foundation hosted its seventh annual celebration dinner at Cedar Glen Golf Club in September 2005. Our accounting firm, McBride, Manley & Miiller, P.C, once again sponsored the event.

The evening was opened with the young clear voices of 4th, 5th, and 6th grade Sugarbush Elementary and Anchor Bay Middle School South choir members in a patriotic tribute. The performance was prepared and directed by Diane Michelson and Deborah Root.

More than one hundred friends of the Foundation were in attendance. Cedar Glen was decorated for fall with pumpkin centerpieces later raffled off by table. Guests visited during the cocktail hour followed by a delicious meal and a Stahl's Belly Button Cookie desert followed by the State of the Foundation Program.

Appreciation was expressed to ABC Foundation contributors and special friends in the form of engraved gifts and plaques. Board Chairman Mary Socia announced details of The Singing Christmas Tree - a new program for the Foundation and the community. Foundation benefactor Velma Cullen MacDonald made this special bequest with the purchase of the "tree".

Several grants were awarded to groups who have made their own special contributions to the community. Grants were given to the New Baltimore Interfaith Choir and the Anchor Bay Community Band for their upcoming holiday performance; The New Baltimore Police Department was awarded a grant for the purchase of DNA kits for the Justin Mello KidPrint Program; the Anchor Bay Band Boosters for the Anchor Bay High School Wind Ensemble was awarded a grant for the prestigious opportunity to attend the Michigan Music Conference. A karaoke unit and music was awarded to East Harbor Village for the Memory Loss Unit.

Finally, we were pleased to name our first official Goodwill Ambassador—Bette Dunlap Carrothers—who has supported our cause from the beginning—that of bringing good works to the community through awarding grants and scholarships to those living in the Anchor Bay community and the greater Chesterfield and New Baltimore areas.

Thanks to Spud Wolfe and the staff at Cedar Glen, Meijers, and all the individuals who donated items for a raffle, and to all who remember the Anchor Bay Community Foundation in their planned giving.
